1. Действие в процессе в конкретный момент времени в настоящем
Mulder is investigating the crime now. - Малдер расследует преступление сейчас.

2. Действие в процессе на протяжении определенного периода времени в настоящем
Mulder is reporting to Skinner from 8 to 9 am. - Малдер дает отчет Скиннеру с 8 до 9 утра.

Схема
TO BE + Ving
Ving - это глагол в первой форме с окончанием -ing, например:
look + ing = looking

To be ставим в ту форму, которая соответствует подлежащему. Правила те же, что и в Present Simple. Например, если это you, значит, выбираем форму are. Если подлежащее выражено существительным, то надо мысленно заменить это существительное на соответствующее местоимение и подобрать форму глагола to be. Например, подлежащее "кошка" можно заменить на местоимение "она", то есть, "it". Значит, форма глагола to be - is. Схему глагола to be можно посмотреть здесь.

Маркеры
Маркеры - это слова, которые помогают определить время. Для Present Continuous это:

now - сейчас
at the moment - в данный момент
at 6:08 - в 6:08 (конкретное время, конкретный момент)
from...to.../from...till.../from...until... - с...по... (период времени)
*today (сегодня) и варианты с this (week, month...) (на этой неделе, в этом месяце...) также могут быть маркерами Present Continuous.
